November 2025

As the weather turns damp, here are some tips for continuing to ride your bike in the rain:  Wear waterproof clothing, turn on your bike lights to increase your visibility, and reduce your speed, especially when turning to prevent slipping.  Afterwards, wipe down your bike, and lubricate your chain to prevent rust.  Be aware that there will be more potholes in the rain.  Adding a rear fender will prevent backspray, and there are affordable clip-on options.

In this month’s Newsletter:

  • World Day of Remembrance was on November 16.

  • GivingTuesday is on December 3.  Please consider a donation to FCBC for furthering the mission to build healthy, equitable, and safe communities through advocacy, education, and collaboration that promotes bicycling for everyday transportation and recreation.

  • The next FCBC general membership meeting and FCBC Board meeting are scheduled for Tuesday, November 18 at 6:30 and 7:00 pm, respectively.  Nominations to the FCBC Board will be taken at the Board meeting.

World Day of Remembrance

On the damp afternoon of November 16, traffic safety advocates and locally elected officials gathered at Fresno City Hall to commemorate the 33 people who lost their lives in traffic crashes in Fresno so far this year.  Speakers discussed the impact of losing loved ones, and there was a call for the City of Fresno to adopt a Vision Zero resolution for a goal of zero traffic deaths by 2030.

GivingTuesday is December 3

FCBC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with no paid staff.  The Board and other dedicated members volunteer their time and effort to put on activities to encourage, educate, and advocate for safe bicycling for everyday transportation and recreation.  FCBC depends on memberships and donations to pay for expenses, such as the cost of maintaining the website, insurance, and supporting The Bike Station.  Additional income is occasionally generated when other organizations pay FCBC to put on events, and all proceeds go to the FCBC coffers to support future events and endeavors.  The FCBC Board takes its fiduciary duty seriously and has full transparency.  Please consider a one-time or regular tax-deductible donation to FCBC or upgrading your membership level to allow these efforts to continue.

Bike Prom 2025

The FCBC showcase event Bike Prom was held on November 9 and included a bike ride from Fresno High to South of Shaw Beer Company in Downtown Fresno.  Style was in spades for this fun event.

The next bike ride will be in December to experience the holiday lights.  More details to come.

Upcoming FCBC Board Elections

FCBC Board elections are held in December, and nominations will be taken at the November 18 Board meeting.  Board members set the direction, plan the activities, and manage the resources for FCBC, which was established in 2001.  There are nine positions on the Board, consisting of Chair, Vice Chair, Past Chair, Secretary, Membership Coordinator, Treasurer, and three Members at Large.

Member at Large positions are expected to be vacated by current Board members.  Any eligible individual may be nominated for any position of the Board, other than the Past Chair, which is not an elected position.  Nominations may be made by any FCBC member, and self-nominations are allowed.  There are no specific requirements to be a Board member other than being a FCBC member and resident within Fresno County.  More information regarding the duties and election process can be found in the FCBC bylaws, and any questions can be directed to info@fresnobike.org.

Voting will be held online in late November and in December, with results announced at the December general membership meeting.
